NaBloPoMo – Day 26 – Car Shopping and time to Breathe

Today was a day when my husband & I had time to be together with no kiddos, they were at school. So as a romantic adventure we decided we would go car shopping – yay! It is hard to get so excited about a new car and dropping a lot of money but still our little green car is 13 years old has been broken in twice. The reason to get some new wheels is to find a reliable car that we can take on our adventures, that can drive in snow (not too often) but something we can drive on a road trip out of California to see more of this country we now live in. Initially we looked at an Outback but it is big and had not much room in the boot for our camping gear so the next option was a sedan that is comfortable and has a decent size boot/trunk for all our camping gear. So it looks like the Legacy sedan may be the choice for us. We both like Subaru cars so fingers crossed all the time we spent at the car yard today goes well!

Well a very merry christmas with some new wheels!

As for time to breathe it is such a great feeing that we have a whole 3 days off school this week! We plan to hang out with friends and catch up on some fun things like eating, drinking and playing. I need to make some desserts but that is all fun. The desserts are a vegan pumpkin pie, chocolate mousse made from tofu and a baked pear tart with a hazelnut crust – oh yum!

As the sun set today…

NaBloPoMo – Day 22 – Snail Houses and Park Play

What another chaotic day it was with volunteering at school in my daughters Kinder class with a substitute teacher and absolute craziness in the classroom! After that was all over I just wanted to come home and have a come of tea and a lay down but lunch was the next best option. An afternoon of knitting in the park with my neighbour was the best way to wind down the week of busy-ness that it was!

25 days of posts #18 something to think about

Today I went for a tune up to my acupuncturist and as I was leaving I saw this by on the wall – it so rings true… well with me anyway 😉

The Paradox of our Times

– His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers
Wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints

We spend more, but we have less
We have bigger houses, but smaller families
More conveniences, but less time
We have more degrees, but less sense
More knowledge, but less judgment
More experts, but more problems
More medicines, but less wellness
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values

We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often
We have learnt how to make a living, but not a life
We have added years to life, but not life to years

We’ve been all the way to the moon and back
But have trouble crossing the street to meet the new neighbour

We have conquered outer space, but not inner space
We’ve cleaned up the air, but polluted our soul
We’ve split the atom, but not our prejudice
We’ve higher incomes, but lower morals
We’ve become long on quantity but short on quality

These are the times of tall men, and short character
Steep profits, and shallow relationships
These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare

More leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition
These are the days of two incomes, but more divorces
Of fancier houses, but broken homes
It is a time when there is much in the show window
And nothing in the stockroom
A time when technology can bring this letter to you
And a time when you can choose
Either to make a difference…. or just hit, delete.

25 days of posts #12 – 12.12.12 Don’t cry over spilt milk

A very interesting date today 12.12.12 I hope it was special for everyone! For me it was just one of those busy days with rushing off to school for a field trip in the rain. Though it went ahead it turned out to be a perfect day for a hike in the hills. We got to see a lot of deer and smell the bay leaf trees after the rain. So that was something I can recommend to do after a morning of rushing around the place. So after school it was a nice of tea to wind down and relax after a day of dealing with kids on the field trip. Tonight was a lovely night of Qi Gong and it is something that I should do more often as it really brings you back to your self. Coming home this evening I wanted to grab something from the fridge and out comes a full bottle of milk all over the kitchen floor. Why cry over spilt milk when I have a cat to clean it up for me! I just needed a few more to clean up the huge mess of milk and glass. At least the kitchen floor is nice and clean now!
